When
this new model was introduced, we knew right away
what this meant. Almost coming up out of nowhere as
the first of its kind, the BX-series from Kubota
instantly created a new category of tractor, the Sub
Compact Tractor category. Larger than a garden
tractor, but smaller than a compact tractor. So we
wondered, is this just a beefed up garden tractor,
or is it something more, and is it worth a look?
We took a closer
look at this little tractor and find that it is much
more than a beefed up garden tractor. More of a
scaled down compact tractor, the design, features,
attachments, and versatility of this tractor almost
give you the best of both worlds. Lightweight (for a
4WD, 3-cylinder diesel powered tractor, anyway) but
rugged, we think the BX is really the only choice if
you need a garden tractor, but want a
compact tractor. The BX2200 has most typical compact
tractor features, like a 22-horsepower (3200rpm)
liquid-cooled 3-cylinder diesel engine, 4WD,
hydrostatic power steering, a Category 1 3-point
hitch, live mid and rear PTOs, and a 2-range
hydrostatic transmission. Some larger garden
tractors on the market give you a few of those
options, but so far the BX-series is the first
tractor to give you all of them in one package, at a
large garden tractor price (a BX2200 can be
purchased for well under $10,000).
The BX2200 tractor
standing alone is a nice package, but what good is a
tractor without attachments? For the BX2200, Kubota
offers many attachments usually found only on
compact tractors. On this sub compact tractor, you
can mount Kubota's new LA211 front-end loader (460lb
lift capacity) and team it up with a rear blade, box
scraper, posthole digger, rotary tiller, sand rake,
and other attachments from Kubota, including two
mid-mount mower choices (54" or 60").
Looking at the
whole package the BX2200 offers ---powerful,
compact, versatile sub compact tractor with big
tractor attachments available, we think the BX2200
is the ideal tractor for homeowners with small lots
looking for more than a lawn mower, but don't want
to spend more on a compact tractor, or have
restrictions that wouldn't be ideal for a larger,
heavier compact tractor.
Congratulations to Kubota Tractor
Corporation on building a great tractor and starting
this new category! |
