Posted 08/22/2002World War II fighter pilots believed that if a fighter looked good it would fly good, enter the P51 Mustang.
I guess I feel pretty much the same about my new DK40.It's looks are impressive and right out of the box it perfomed flawlessly and continues to do so.
The workmanship of the tractor is second to none, attention to detail is evident everywhere. With over 40 hours of hard fel work, most of it in 4wd,I have yet find a loose bolt or for that matter experience any problems.
The 4 cylinder diesel is rated at 41H.P. and always starts easy and runs well,I rarely wait for the glow plug light to go out.
What I really like about the DK40 is it's ability to use Kioti's 1470 fel,the lift capacity is a whopping 2,100 lbs.
I also purchased Kioti's 65" tiller which is on par with the tractor in terms of quality and performance.
These DK series tractors have the appearance of being overbuilt, the DK40 at 3,836 lbs. I would guess leads most others in it's class.
I particularly like the power steering it's so effortless even in deep ruts and the turning radius is so tight that I have yet to hit the stops.
The DK35&40 tractors have rear and mid PTOs and will accomodate the new belly mowers which are built using 7ga. steel, again over build.
My brother-in-law who purchased the new JD 4410 thinks the Dk40 is more ruggedly built, I agree and have an extra $5k in the bank to boot.
My cost is for a fully optioned-out DK40,1470 fel/w 6' bucket and 65" tiller.
Hydrostatic is not available at this time, but with full-syncro transport and reverser gears I really don't miss it,but that's a personal preference.
I would highly recommend this machine to anyone who is looking to stretch their tractor dollars while not wanting to feel like they settled for less.........Mike
Date Purchased: 5/2002
Purchased: New
Price Paid: US$18875
Pros: Good value, ease of maint.,quality build, reasonably priced parts,Kioti customer service response and it looks like a tractor, not a Tonka toy.
Cons: Manuals(except fel) are horribly translated,hi-lo range levers need a more positive detent(they just kind of flop into range),dealer network is poor.
