Tractor Attachment Reviews / 2001 John Deere 261 RM Finish Mower
Review by garchib from East Kingston, New Hampshire
Posted 07/17/2003

This mower works great. It is VERY heavy duty and
weighs well over 500 pounds. The thing I like best is
that it is so well balanced, that when I remove it, I can
maneuver it around my garage by myself or even push
it with one foot ! This makes hooking it up to the 3 PH VERY easy. I feel these kinds of mowers and tractors
are not the best for "delicate" mowing, such as my
lumpy front yard. That is better done with a hand mower
or a small tractor, but I don't think that is a dig on this
particular mower or RMM(s), I think a MMM on a CUT
would have the same problem, due to their width.
One last note, the blades are so heavy duty that when
I hit a rock, it cleaves the rock, which leaves my blades
dulled, but at least I know the blades are heavy duty enought to handle an accidental encounter with a rock that has popped to the surface.

Date Purchased: 8/2001
Purchased: New
Price Paid: US$2000
Pros:
well engineered, easy to work on, does a good mowing job
Cons: no designed for small, lumpy areas of the yard where the mowing job may require a couple extra passes
