New Holland Reviews / 2003 New Holland TC24D Tractor
Review by melensdad from Lowell, Indiana
Posted 04/20/2004

I've been using the TC24D for 9+ months and the tractor is an excellent tool that has performed flawlessly. There have been no repair issues as of yet. The tractor is fairly small but has plenty of power and I find it is more common to run out of traction than power.

I've used it with a post hole digger for 75+ holes, most of those using a 12" auger in heavy clay and had zero problems.

Using a Sub-Soiler I've dug and run electrical lines and found I had to make 2 passes in the heavy soils because it would spin the tires on the grass and lose traction. I believe that if the tractor were heavier it probably would have pulled the Sub-Soiler a bit better, but this is a small tractor and plowing 12" cuts into the earth is not really what this tractor is really designed for.

Using a 60" Farm King snow blower mounted on the 3pt hitch I never ran into enough snow to slow the tractor. We did not have any major 12"+ storms this winter, but moderate snow and wet snow were not an issue.

Using a 60" Befco finish mower is no problem in terms of power, however the mower deck is so heavy that I added 100# of weight to the front wheels to hold the front end down on the ground.

Using a 60" Corriher blade has posed no problems except in heavy slushy snow while PULLING the blade. The tractor would pull to the side the blade was angeled toward. However when reversing the blade and pushing there were no problems. I used the same blade for cleaning a ditch and found that in heavy clay or when grabbing heavy cobblestones I could stop the tractor.

Overall the tractor is a well made and well designed unit. It has become my favorite tractor to use. On the downside, the headlamps are a little on the weak side and could be improved. The new 2004 TC24DA is supposed to have better headlamps. The headlamps can also be accidently switched off by hitting the switch with your knee if you are not careful. The tractor is very manuverable and that makes mowing around landscaping much easier than using a larger tractor. The hydraulics are strong enough to lift the tractor off the ground. The ergonomics are well thought out. Overall, it is a great tractor.
