New Holland Reviews / 2004 New Holland TC-55DA Tractor
Review by meledward23 from Memphis, Tennessee
Posted 11/18/2004

I bought the TC-55DA for use on a horse farm. We decided to go with a large compact tractor to work the fields and drag horse arenas amongst the utlity jobs that a tractor is for.

Acquired: TC-55da, 18LA FEL, Landpride 6' Rotary Cutter, and we already own box blades, harrows, discs, and rear blades.

We bought NH over any other tractor because of the level of service this dealer had a reputation for. And it was true and has paid off.

This tractor is very manuverable for it's size. I have lifted 10' long 30+/-" diameter logs out from behind trees and skirted them on out. It can make the turns, fit through tight spaces and I am quite pleased with the compact nature of the tractor. We rented a TN-65 (60 or 65, memory is fading) and I found it to be cumbersome. The TC has really shown over the TN when it comes to the tight places on my small farm.

I do have a grip. This tractors rear tires are huge and so close together rear implements were either a pain to adjust and/or impossible to get on the tractor. We flipped the rims to get about 6 additional inches per side and everything is great.

There have been some reports of the Steering getting tight on this model when the FEL has a load. I have noticed mine freeze up a few times, but a few jiggles always has freed it up.

I have 55 hours on this machine now. Most of it has been with the FEL (about 35 hrs) and the rest has been arena dragging and Brush Hogging. The FEL has done just about everything that I have asked it to. The view of the bucket is not great on this machine compared to a smaller 30hp range tractors that I have rented. But in the end the lifting power is more of my concern and I am quite pleased with the 18la loader.

I would buy this tractor again.

My regrets: No Rear Remotes, No Rear Weights, with the 18LA you need every bit of weight back there. This tractor is strong on the front end....

Extras, The canopy has been wonderful. There is a cup holder on this tractor that is just wonderful. It holds a 12oz soda well, coffe mugs, and water glasses.
