Posted 03/17/2005Bought my first REAL tractor (a CUT) to handle 10 acres of mixed natural woods and cleared rural lawn/grass. As a woman doing almost all the work alone, I needed something I could manage, that would be reliable, safe, and solid. The 2210 is it! Got the 210 FEL, 62" belly mower, Imatch, and rear scraper blade.
What works great: The FEL power and ease of use for a total novice. I moved gravel and dirt, by myself, with a bit of practice. The "joy stick" makes it easy. Getting the FEL into "float" is not clearly described in the manual. Getting the FEL back on the tractor, after I detached it the first time, was a nightmare. Pins would NOT align. Again, text instructions could have been clearer.
Mower is quiet, extremely powerful and easy to adjust. It is NOT helpful that the rear attachment has to move up/down, same as the mower. Should be independent! The Imatch makes it possible for a person with limited physical ability, operating alone, to manage attachments. Excellent value and well worth the $$$ if you don't have strong guys around to help lift attachments.
JD manual does not provide a clear instruction on cold starts, how to warm-up plugs to avoid smoke at start-up, etc. (see TBN for help with this)
The seat/suspension is miserable and uncomfortable compared to the X485 I have owned previously. No tilt, no cruise, no 12v outlet. None of the "x-tras", but much more power to work. Seat adjustment and certain line-of-sight issues make it difficult for smaller people/women to be totally comfortable on the tractor. This problem can be solved with a bit of creative adjustments.
I love the safety of the ROPS and belt, the placement of the control levers, the flat, step-through, and strong braking. Tire selection is important if traction is an issue. Select wisely.
Overall, strong tough-working tractor, minus the frills, but full of backbone.
