Posted 05/24/2005This is a fine tractor. The thing is light enough not to hurt the lawn but powerful enough to dig ponds and build roads. I bought it with the 402 FEL and a good rear blade (included in posted price) - so far everything has been perfect except for a small leak in the hydraulics of the front end loader (somebody forgot to tighten something when they installed it - dealer sent out a mechanic within 20 minutes of my call, no charge - he tracked down the leak and fixed it in five minutes)
I’ve done everything under the sun to beat this thing up - takes it like a champ. The light weight does give a few problems when digging into hard clay but it still does the job, it just takes a little longer. I think I’ll get a set of wheel weights for the heavy digging. The loader has more power than I expected - it’s only rated at 885 lbs. But I picked up a rock that I know for a fact weighs 1100 lbs. without much more than a little grunt so I’m guessing their ratings are conservative.
I almost bought the L3130 and am glad I didn’t now that I’ve had the B7800 for a few days - I am putting in a lot of golf cart paths through the woods and the larger tractor would not have been able to get around in the tight spaces nearly as well.
The Hydrostatic transmission has me spoiled already - I’ll never buy another tractor without it. The quarter incher is just fine - once you get the tension set right you can be as accurate as you need to be.
Date Purchased: 5/2005
Purchased: New
Price Paid: US$65535
Pros: Lots of power on a frame small enough to get into tight spaces.
Cons: nothing that can't be fixed with a set of weights - it's light.
