Posted 05/25/2005I purchased a PT422 in February of 2000. I now have over 400 hours on it. Despite it's small weight (about 1100 pounds) I have found the tractor capable of most task needed for my 10 acre wooded lot.
I have used the grappling bucket for carrying large loads (upto 15 feet wide and 500 lbs) of branches. The width limitation is the limit of my trails and not the tractor. With the articulated steering it is possible to manuever loads wider than the distance between two small objects such as trees.
I used the trencher to dig the following.
125 foot trench 18 inches deep in 30 minutes.
15 X 20 foot pond 4 feet deep in about 8 hours.
I have dug trenches across gravel driveways for drainage. I have found that rocks can get caught in the trencher, requiring a minute with a hammer and chisel to remove them.
I spread 20 tons of top soil around my neighbor’s lot so that he could finish spreading it with a rake. This moving and spreading were done in 90 minutes.
A trailer attachment was used to push a trailer in a parade. The trailer had about 15 children on it and two adults. The trailer can be placed very accurately since with it on the front of the tractor your can watch in much easier. You do have to watch constantly though.
The stump grinder has been used on many stumps. It works well on anything smaller than 8 inches diameter. It has been used on stumps up to 24 inches, but this can take more than 4 hours to remove. Still this is much easier than digging out the stump by hand.
I previously owned a small tractor with a three point hitch. It took many minutes of struggling to change attachments. I found that I was putting the brush cutter on for the summer and the snow blade on for the winter, and rarely changed in between. With the PT422 I routinely change attachments multiple times for certain projects. For more information look at the Power Trac link on tractorbynet.com and Power Trac's site at power-trac.com.
Several of my neighbors have tractors. I find that I have helped them on many projects, and have rarely needed their help.
