John Deere Reviews / 2000 John Deere 4300 Tractor
Review by redsmoke from Abilene, Kansas
Posted 05/27/2005

4300, 4 WD, SyncReverser. FEL. Bought new Mar. 2000. At 60 hrs., trans. & hydraulics failed-back half disassembled and repaired under warranty. Hydraulic cylinders on FEL rebuilt by dealer at 100 hrs. at my expense (out of warranty). Battery corroded cables and battery tray, dealer would not cover it. Have replaced three batteries so far. Now, at 346 hrs., tractor creeps backward with syncreverser lever in neutral. Dealer charged me $195 to "adjust the linkage". It did not correct the problem. They have to split the tractor to repair the problem (at my expense). I'm going to spend the money to repair it so I can trade it on a New Holland or Massey (I won't dump my problem on an unsuspecting buyer). The tractor was always shedded and well-maintained and never abused. As a faithful JD customer for 25 years, I am very disappointed with the way I was treated by John Deere and the dealership. I am glad the majority of 4300 owners have had good luck with their tractors, but I will never own a John Deere product again.

Date Purchased: 3/2000
Purchased: New
Price Paid: US$18000
Pros:
Handling, comfort, power
Cons: poor JD quality control & support, poor design in transmission and shift linkage
