John Deere Reviews / 2001 John Deere 4100 Hydrostatic Tractor
Review by housemasters from Allentown, New Jersey
Posted 06/04/2005

I have over 1300 hours on my tractor and although it appears to be a good tractor, I've had several problems with it. I've had to replace (so far) the two front rims (twice), several sets of bearings and gears in the front end, the power steering cylinder (twice), two tie rods, and soon I will have to replace the 3-point hitch arms (they sometimes rub against the rear tires and believe it or not, the metal bars are almost worn through and the tires look like new...thats just wrong). All the problems are due to metal fatigue, which means the metals on the John Deere's are cheap and inferior. Just bought a New Holland to replace it. Beware!!!

Date Purchased: 3/2003
Purchased: New
Price Paid: US$18500
Pros:
Hydrostatic works great
Cons: Cheap metal and repetitive repairs
