Kubota Reviews / 2005 Kubota Grand L-3830 GST (Glide S Tractor
Review by duke71 from Leavenworth, Kansas
Posted 06/28/2005

I bought a:
Kubota Grand L-3830 GSTw/front loader (foldable ROPS)
R-4 tires
6ft Land Pride medium duty rear Blade
6ft Land Pride Brush cutter

Let me start out with this:
I started to look for a tractor I Kubota was not my first choice (a Massey Ferguson is what I first priced). I determined I needed a 40hp tractor. I looked at John deere (too expensive), New Holland (also high priced), and Case (made by New Holland). A friend mentioned Kubota to me and I went to test drive one and to try it out. I found that the Kubota had the best turn radius, the most comfort and the most room in it's class. the only Tractor that came close to the Kubota was the Massey 1500 series tractors.
I Have 17 acres and the some heavy brush to cut and dirt and gravel to move. I have put a little over 12hrs use on the tractor in a week and the this tractor never lost power and never got stuck. The digital display is just wonderful in that you can gauge your PTO speed exactly (instead of using a guage and trying to determine your PTO speed) with Kubota you know exactly and can adjust it acordingly.
The GST (Glideshift) model is just wonderful. I have an automatic tractor and can adjust my speed at my leasure without clutching to change speeds (with Hydrostat you lose some Horse power and only have a low/medium/high range). The Front loader works very well and adn I have the clearance I need. When the L-3830 is put into 4wd drive you can not stop the tractor, it has plenty of wieght (3800lbs without loader) to pull itself out of anything.
When I attach the 6ft brush cutter I never have any power lose and adjust my PTO speed as need to keep it at 540rmp by veiwing the digital display. the only time the PTO drops rpms is when I engage the tractor in a higher gear but that is expected when I drop it back to a lower gear I throttle the PTO back down 540rmp. I have discovered the PTO will support a higher rpm (not recommended) but do not exceed the the 540rpm.
Another nice feature on the Kubota is the telescopic links (come standard) I rarely use it but it is great when I do need to use it. The 3pt hitch has a 2760lb lift more than enough for a tractor it's size. All the fluid levels are very easy to check and to get to (very important for me) and the hood is very easy to open and shut (unlike the John Deere/New Hollands). The seat on the Grand L series have arm rests (very nice) and recline (very usefull standard feature once I experienced it). The head lights put out very good lighting in the evening. This tractor is very nice and I highly recommend this tractor to anyone. I researched the compact line of tractors and found the Kubot to be the best in it's class and very affordable. I have included a link to a website that shows a comparison to John Deere and New Holland (keep in Case is made by New Holland)

This tractor is hard to beat and offers a lot adn has the best value. Also the Engine is produced in Chicago and the tractor is assembled in Georgia (unlike the other compact brands that are produced over seas)

Date Purchased: 6/2005
Purchased: New
Price Paid: US$24750
Pros:
Strong, Heavy weight, Digital display (Great for knowing the exact PTO speed), Lift Capacity, 4WD, Seating Comfort, Ease of use.
Cons: no tilt meter, Creep speed should be standard (my opinion)
