Posted 11/24/2005Before aquiring this tractor, it belonged to my stepfather, so I had some experience with it. It is an incredibly versatile machine, despite its generally compact size. The small size does have some advantages, such as getting into tighter spaces between trees or other obstructions, and being more friendly to driveways or turf. Overall, however, the power and utlity of this tractor is amazing. With only a 20HP diesel engine, one might think the tractor would be limited, but in reality this little trouper can do almost any task--mowing, bush-hogging, cutting hayfields, bucket work, knocking down trees...it does it all.
Of course, the size of the attachments is somewhat limited by the tractors's size and horsepower, but with the correct attachments the tractor does it all--if a bit more slowly than a larger machine might. I have MFWD, which is essential, in my opinion. I also have the hydrostatic transmission, which I really like and allows for such easy use. I have a 70 front end loader, JD rotary cutter, and a mid-mount mower. I plan on aquiring a flail to better mow my 10 acres of hayfield.
The tractor has power steering, which allows you to turn on a dime. I have found that the turf tires that came with the tractor (20x8.00-10 Front/33x12.5/15 Rear) are a bit light duty for heavier work, particularly front end loading work. Since I don't plan to use the tractor on turf for mowing (I have a smaller JD for that job), I am upgrading to R4 industrial tires and new rims (23x8.5 Front/12x16.5 Rear). With the heavier tires and more aggressive tread, I expect the tractor to become even more useful.
The little Yanmar 3-cylinder diesel engine is a workhorse. I have used similar Yanmar diesels in many sailboats on which I have worked, and they are outstanding. My tractor has nearly 1000 hours, and, honestly, has not been maintained as well as it could have (by the previous owners). I look forward to performing a more siginificant mechanical overhaul soon, but the tractor runs flawlessly nonetheless.
With an overall property size or 50 acres, and about 10 acres of open space requiring more regular work, the 755 is a bit small. However, it was available, the price was fair, and I already knew how useful the little machine was, so I felt it was a good match nonetheless. It's an excellent machine!
Date Purchased: 7/2005
Purchased: Used
Price Paid: US$5500
Pros: Compact, but with power and utility that belies its small size.
Cons: A bit narrow, though with care stability is no problem. Small size limits some uses (not the tractor's fault)
