Other Tractor Brand Reviews / 2005 Long dtc 270 Tractor
Review by rexum03 from chardon, Ohio
Posted 04/23/2006

I have only logged 24 hard hours on tractor as of this writing, I am fairly impressed with what the tractor will do for its size. I have moved 20 yards of wet clay up a 10 degree 40 foot slope to the site of my future front yard then compacted , leveled, and graded, it, I have also used it to clear additional space in the woods to increase yard size, which included dragging 23 foot sections of up to 18 inch diameter hardwood logs, pulling out small 4in. diameter crab apple tree stumps, and getting tractor stuck 3 times in one day up to the axles!!, however, between using the 4wheel drive and fel , tractor was able to free itself with moderate operator effort. the reason that I ranked the tractor a 4 and not a five mainly centers around poor dealer prep. opon takink delivery, none of the hazard or turn signal flashers worked, the right rear tire had a slow leak, their was a clear plastic film over inst. cluster on the inside that forced me to remove the cluster and disassemble in to remove film, the front end loader bolts came loose at bellhousing after 11 hours of use, luckily, no damage was done to bellhousing loader or bolts, I removed each bolt ,inspected it applied 271 loctite and tightened them with an impact and 19mm swivel socket and they seem to be staying tight. I dont beleive that the dealer properly tightend them to begin with and did not apply any thread locker. and finaly the hyd fitting on bottom of hyd. pump seeps slightly when tractor is used hard for several hours straight, bolts are tight, probably a bad o ring. due to the fact that selling dealer is 70 miles away,I have corrected these problems myself. As i wrote earlier, I feel that most of these issues are dealer prep related, with the exception of hyd. leak. I almost forgot the seat bolts came loose after initial 3 hrs of use. I would not hesitate to buy another farmtrac 270, as I feel it is a solid,, capable, affordably priced machine, however, if I had to do it all over again, I may have gone with my local farmtrac dealer, paul robinson and co. and spent the additional 1800 dollars for his higher price and ohio sales tax. I have learned that the quality of the dealer may be worth paying a little more for, regardless of the manafacturer. After correcting the issues I wrote about and going over the tractor one time checking all plugs and fasteners, it has done everythin that I hoped it would and I am pleased with the tractor, just not my out of town selling dealer, which is partialy my fault for putting bottomline price above all.
