Posted 06/18/2006This is my first tractor, and I took a chance and bought a used one. I purchased it in May, 2006. It came with the Kubota LA680 loader and a Bush Hog 72" rear box blade and had only 279 hours of use. It is in great condition for being a 10 year old machine.
Upon delivery I changed the air filter, greased the front end loader, lubricated the control levers, and checked the fluid levels and the tires. I purchased the owners and shop manuals so I could do the maintenance myself. It is very easy to work on, unlike many modern automobiles.
So far everything has worked perfectly. The 4 cylinder diesel starts instantly and the Glide Shift transmission shifts smoothly without using the clutch pedal. Even on 100 degree days the temp needle doesn't pass the the 1/3 mark on the scale.
I used the 4WD to drag some large fallen trees and used the loader to get rid of several huge piles of debris. The Glide Shift transmission works great for loader work, although because I'm new to compact tractors and also have a Honda hydrostatic drive lawn tractor, I have to concentrate on how the controls work. I occasionally catch myself grabbing the gear shift lever, instead of the direction lever, to change direction but I've almost taught myself not to do that.
With 39 gross horsepower, 31 PTO horsepower, and 4 wheel drive, this thing is pretty formidable. I've had it spinning all 4 tires pulling a pine tree that was too heavy. I just had to buck it into smaller sections and the L3600 handled it easily.
The L3600GST is an older model Kubota, therefore no cup holder, etc., but when I'm using the loader I don't have time to drink anything anyway. I like the fact that it's utilitarian and has minimal plastic and creature comforts.
I love the L3600GST. It's the perfect size for my little spread, and will save me thousands of dollars on landscaping and debris removal. I have no plans to trade up to a newer model.
