I bought my 3710HST in August 99. It has an LA681 Loader with heavy duty bucket, foldable ROPS and R4 tires. I traded in my L245DT which I had also bought new some 2000 hours ago. The HST is a dream both for the loader work and mowing in tight places, and the turning radius is fantastic.
When I first got it home I thought it might have been overkill, considering a L245DT had did the work for years. However, it didn't take me long to appreciate the power! Since then I've pulled out 15 orchard trees, pulled out 278 fence posts, moved tons of manure, mulch and firewood, and mowed 45 acres. What did I ever do without it! The 30 PTO HP made a 17 ft bat wing mower perfect doing 10 acres per hour!
The only problems I've had are: 1)the rear axle housing was cracked between the ROPS bolts on one side when I got it and the dealer had to take it for a day and replaced both sides; 2)it is sometimes difficult to move the shift lever between neutral and high or medium and likewise with the 4WD lever; 3) the way the PTO shield is positioned it interferes with the chain linkage for a mower; and 4)it creaks when you climb up on it like all the bolts are loose (but they aren't) certainly not the tight feeling of the old L245.
I struggled with what tire tread to get. I had used the ag tires on my 245DT but was sold on getting the R4's. That was a mistake. The R4's slip and spin in mud or soft dirt where the ag tires never did. I also have to use the 4WD more often because of it and find myself stopping to shift into 4WD when I go into a wet field and then having to shift to 2WD when I come back on the road. I never had to use 4WD most of the time before.
The bucket obstructs the headlights so I would recommend a dealer option of spot lights mounted in some approved way under or on the side of the ROPS.
In comparing the new tractor to the old, I also think the paint job on the new one is definitely not nearly as good. The paint on the hood is ok but the loader and Kubota grey could use a few extra coats!
Overall, I would recommend the L3710HST to anyone who needs the power of a 36 HP and has a garage to put it in. (the foldable ROPS makes it fit through a standard garage door!)
