Posted 01/18/2002The New Holland TC 18 I purchased in March of 2001, has been more tractor than I could have imagined. The tractor is as basic as they come, FWD, manual steering,6*2 manual transmission, ag tires (6*12 front, 9*16 rear). I use this tractor mainly for mowing,(10 acres) and back bladeing (1500' driveway). I have 52 hrs. on the machine no problems as of yet. The 50 hr maintenance was quick and easy, fuel filter, hydraulic filter, oil and oil filter. Everything is easy to get to and no special tools are required.
I mow using a 42" Bushhog it weighs around 356 lbs. My land is basiclly all hill around 10 to 30 degree slopes. This means I use my FWD most of the time. I do have 160 lbs. on the front and that makes a big difference. The R1's provide plenty of traction and minimal damage to the fields. This tractor is a little light in front for what I am using it on, but with the addition of a front loader sometime in the future that problem will be resolved. I have know problems with power even when cutting tall grass. The first mower I used with this tractor was a JD 413 and was cutting thick grass, weeds and green briars taller than the tractor. I did have to use low range gearing with that mower , but with the Bushhog I am able to use high range even in the tall stuff.
Well I'm going to stop here I could go on all day. I'll finish by saying this, If you are looking for a small tractor with plenty of power, thats easy to operate and can handle about any job the small farmer can have give the TC 18 a look.
