Kubota Reviews / 1997 Kubota L3600DT Tractor
Review by TonyC from Monroe, Virginia
Posted 03/31/2002

When I purchased this 1997 model tractor last year, it was 24 years newer than anything I had ever owned. Simply put it was a pure joy to operate compared to what I'd been used to. I can't compare it to anything else on the market but I am happy to judge it on it's own merits.

The L3600 is at the somewhat larger end of the compact tractor spectrum. With a 39HP engine and 31HP PTO, it has plenty of power for anything this "gentleman farmer" needs. The wheel base is 71.1 inches. With fluid filled AG tires it provides a very stable platform on slopes. From bush hogging to snow removal to finish mowing, this tractor has the power and agility to do it all.

With the forward reverse shuttle shift on the column, productivity is greatly improved over the old floor shift design. This is especially true when doing a lot of work with the Front end Loader (FEL). Of course many of the newer tractor have a similar shift arrangement, but for me it was a new and wonderful experience.

The L3600 DT has standard manual shift transmission, 8 forward 8 reverse. Shifting is smooth and effortless, even while the tractor is in motion.

I have found everything on this tractor to be conveniently located. Side cover removal on the engine is quick. The FEL, model LA680 with 60" bucket, is easily removed though I rarely do so. Of course the FEL blocks the headlights so I'll need to add additional lighting.

As with all tractors of any size, the 4WD feature is the most valuable. I do wish there was a dash light that lets you know what mode you are in.

All in all I love this tractor. It does everything I need and then some. Best of all, I have never wished it was larger or smaller. The Kubota L3600DT is just right.
