Most things from the dealer will be filters and such. You can get them on line - or phone the dealer and they can drop ship to you. Cheaper than a 2 hour drive each way! I wouldn't let the distance bother.

By the way, what 1/2 ton do you have? I used to have a 2000 Chev with the 5.3, automatic and 3:73 gears. It would haul my L3410HST with FEL, filled R4's and Woods BB600 cutter on a 2400# trailer without much issue. That's about 8500# total load.

The diesel is better, but still the 1/2 did tow it over 7,500 miles total....250 miles at a crack.
