I think it depends whos' sock it was ! 
Actually I remember my grandma up on the farm making coffee on the stove, wood powered stove that is, with the old style percolator with the glass bulb on top !  Of course I was never allowed to have more than a sip !  What would she think of me now if she new I put a dash of Jack Daniels in there when the need arose ?
