I'll stand alone here and suggest the lighter trailer for a couple reasons. Your truck proabably has a MAX GCWR of 20K (maybe less, better check). If you are pulling the heavier 14K trailer and you are pulled over, you must make sure your truck weighs no more than 6K or you will be ticketed for being in excess of your trucks max 20K GCWR.

Since your truck probably weighs more like 7-8K with fuel, passengers,hitch, tools, etc. the 12K trailer will allow you to have a truck that weighs 8K without exceeding your max GCWR.

Best to check your GCWR and your empty weight before you buy a trailer.
