I would simply tell the truth and not make excuses or lie. You will not loan the trailer because they can't be trusted. The trailer is only insured by the vehicle it is being towed by. It you loan both your truck and trailer you are then completely liable for any and all actions of the operator. Your safest bet is to pay a responsible operator to assist in their move or pay for their U-Haul.
