One would never be able to move the gear shifter out of any gear without the tractor being completely stopped. This would defeat the purpose of having synchronized gears in some of the newer gear tractors.
It would also make the tractor kind of a bugger to tow.

I just don't see any reason for a tractor transmission to work any different than a car transmission.
