I see what you mean. A/C would definately make a noticable difference in the usable
HP. Also the mowers of today must require a lot more
HP than the mower conditioners we used in the 60's and 70's. We used to use 50
PTO HP tractors to run a 8' mower conditioner, mowing a alfalfa, clover, timothy mix, and a couple of times when in a pinch we used the Allis Chalmers WD on the mower. She got the job done with only about 40
pto HP. My brother and I still own the WD and have done a little tractor pulling with it. Today she will crank out 80 plus
PTO HP, a bit healthier than when Dad was farming with it.
