Re cutting the tops off:
I simply use a hatchet Careful aiming just along the edge is amazing. Cuts thru just like a sawsall and is real fast, anout 5 mins to take a top off.
Then I make about 6 ea 1 1/2 holes at bottom using a hole saw followed by another 6 about 1/3 up from bottom.
Make a burn barrel in about 10 mins.
In past I simply used my pick to punch the air holes at the bottom but found the holesaw to be more efficient.

I made many burn bbls as that was how I often got rid of trash from renovation jobs.
Much cheaper and more efficient than bringing in containers, especially now that they charge about a min of $600 per.
