I just bought a 1700 yesterday and the dipstick on the tranny is missing as well. Did you ever get a chance to measure the oil level in yours so we can make a substitute up?

Thanks. And thanks for all the other posts. I have covered most of them and have a firm bearing on all that needs to be done to get it back to top shape.
