There you be, look at the pic below and rig up a dipstick out of something. I like galvanized wire that they use to hang ceiling tile. They work great. I'd use a dremmel tool to make the level mark. By the way , welcome to TBN blue.

PS. The 7 inch is from the top flush. You should not turn the cap tight for measurment.
