I always run engines before oil changes, however I do it for better oil flow to make sure it all comes out. He has good point though. Yesterday I finally gave it another go with a strip of sandpaper about an inch wide wrapped around filter between wrench band and filter. This was mentioned to me by old timer I happened to talk to at nearby chain saw repair shop. It worked! I went very slowly and after about 4 or 5 turns an inch or so at a time, it loosened up! What a relief.
Anyway, thanks to all of you who replied with ideas. It was really appreciated. What a great resource this site is. |
Glad it came off for you.
The oil filter on my Mahindra 5525 is almost completely obstructed by one of the
FEL support members.
I can get to the bottom of the filter and to the top 1" of the filter. So I use this $9 Fram filter pliers from Walmart to grab around the accessible top of the filter.
Works fine.
