I'm QUITE sure that a supressed .22lr semi-auto pistol could be shot with no hearing protection... my 9mm has a short barrell and fires from an open bolt.. loud sucker.. louder than any 22 I've ever heard.. and it is reduced to simple bolt noise with a supressor. i have a buddy with a 45.. same thing.. thup.. thup.. thup.. sounds like flicking your finger at some cardboard..
