Default Re: custom hose cost

Been watching this thread.
In my experience my best priced hoses are found as Surplus Center.
Local hoses are (MUCH) more.
I am somewhat experienced, I am a hobby-type, certainly no pro at hydraulics.

That said, I just completed a totally custom power steering, full hydraulic, adjustable priority valve. I needed a combination of JIC, SAE and NPT ends. Every hose had different fittings on opposite ends.
So... One at a time I measured each hose (it took 7), noted the required fitting on each end, went to town, had the local NAPA dealer make it up, and paid dearly for the custom, exact length perfect fit. And fit it did! Then I moved on to the next hose. This one-at-a-time process would have taken weeks to complete via mail order.

I was willing to pay 30-45 dollars for each exact fit hose and have them hand in just a half hour.
Mail order, while cheaper, takes much longer, and fit not as much a sure thing.

My next project is much easier to plan, and those hoses are coming UPS from Surplus Center.
