Default Model L idle question

Hi,
I have a '59 Model L that I just got running and it idles very "meakly". It doesn't stall or anything like that, it just putts along. Without the benefit of a tach, how does one know if it is idleing correctly? I still haven't figured out the govenor yet, or if the carb is adjusted correctly. I just got this last month, it hadn't run in 10 years. I put a new battery on (it has electric start) and a new spark plug, and when I went to see if I had a spark it just started up! Talk about a surprise.
