I have the opportunity to purchase a used probably older Woods grooming mower, I hope fairly reasonable. I am wondering if anyone has any experience with this particular type mower.
I don't know the model number but it does NOT have a right angle drive gear box to transfer the PTO power to the belts. Instead it has a vee belt pulley about 18" in diameter that is connected to the PTO shaft which supplies power to the blade spindles through a couple of vee belts that make a 90 degree turn.
The deck appears to be around 60" wide and has only 2 gauge wheels in the rear. It is a side discharge model. The mower deck looks to be in decent shape and all the shafts turn I am sure the belts will need to be changed.
I am wondering if these belt driven mowers had issues because the newer ones do away with this type of belt drive and use a gear box. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Randy
