What model of Deere? (You should have sat in the saddle just a bit longer on this question... might have gotten some good info on those Vermeer's!)

They seem to be pretty good machines and they sure don't cost near as much as the Deere's!

If there was anybody in this part of the country that offered parts and service - I might be interested...

vermeers seem to be good balers built heavy easy to work on,but the john deere ties faster.

Absolutely no difference in time it takes to tie. Netwrap is the same and Vermeer 665m Rancher can fee 4 strings at once and the JD can not. We have a new one with 100 bales on it for $22,500. IM002283.JPG

incorrect with string the difference is. in thick windrows ,you have to back a vermeer up to tie or the hay gets caught in the string.the john deere you just tie and never back up.that is a time saving .

a new holland actually string ties faster than a vermeer or deere. the way the two twine arms cover a side of the bale each, is faster than going on the way across and then back again.

Current Vermeer balers have drop and go, with no need to cut the PTO off or back up. Comparing a 30 year old baler to a current model is not an accurate comparison.

Just think about what you are saying "You are saying 2 strings are faster than 4 strings at a time." Given you are putting on the same amount of twine over the same area it is impossible.

what is the differance between vermeer's 5500 rebel,665 rancher and the 555xl?

To answer the original question, the Rebel 5500 makes 5ft wide, by up to 5ft tall bale and is designed for dry hay, the 665 Rancher makes a 5ft wide, up to 66" tall bale and can bale silage or dry, the 555XL makes a 5ft wide, up to 5.5ft tall bale either wet or dry. The rancher is newer by far then the rebel or XL.
