I'm going to look at a one row new idea corn picker today for $1700. He has one that doesn't shuck for $1500 and one that does for $1700. I know nothing about corn pickers. Is there anything that isn't obvious I need to look and by obvious I mean busted welds, cracks, bearings, chains, etc? He is able to hook them up to a small tractor to confirm they are working.

Wow that's pricey. Wouldn't pay that for a two row picker.

Whether the price is good or not have no idea but consider the use of the corn as to whether the shuck will used as additional food or not. If I were using it to feed cattle would want the shuck on the corn.

Look under it, where water would settle, for rusted out metal... Other than that, there's lot's of different ones, with different things to look for.
