Hi, I picked up a MF 82 4-14 3pt plow as partial payment for some hay I sold. It needs new points and one new coulter bearing but is otherwise in great shape. The coulters are all in real great shape with very little wear on them. The plow hasn't been used in 10 years and I am hoping it is easy to get parts for still.

Anyway, what is a good price for this plow? I know around here 3pt plows go for $150 per bottom but on ironsearch I found the same model plow but in 3 bottom version and new paint for $1800. I was quite surprised to see a 3pt plow advertised for so much?

Also, we have not decided on a price yet for the plow but I have a feeling I am not going to get any money out of the person anyway so I decided to take what I can get now and worry about the rest later. What is a decent price to offer for this plow?

EIGHTEEN HUNDRED BUCKS???????????? WOW! Does the seller want a few more for far less?

I'm racking the brain for a mental image of that plow. Is it a truss frame or a box frame plow? (I'm thinking it's the box frame with "removable 4th bottom(??????)

At any rate, wear parts are still easy to get for that style bottom. I've sold a few used plows that I buy at winter consignment sales. I've had better luck with 2 and 3 bottom models. (quicker selling)

But to the question at hand, what's that plow worth? Ive seen 4-bottom plows in average condition sell for $500 to $750, with MOST selling for the $400 end of the scale.

This is no-till country. Plows just don't bring much anymore. 5-bottom semi-mounts sell for $150 or less usually.

I was as surprised as you when I saw the price. Then I thought it might be a typo but all that dealers plows are priced very high. It is a NY dealer along the VT border so maybe they have a higher demand for plows there.

Anyway, here are a couple pics of the plow

That's the model I was thinking about.... (add-on 4th bottom-box frame)Last one I saw sell at auction was last fall. (Local implement dealer selling out) It was in about the same over-all condition, and it brought $525 if I remember correctly. (I bid to $400) This is tobacco growing country. Plows still sell albiet not a big dollar. Behind White/Oliver and Ford plows, Massey sells at or near the top. That particular model is generally a well thought of plow.

No matter what, $1800 is high! If they sell that high, let me know. I'll ship you a truck load of 'em! We can BOTH retire at a young age! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I will be surprised if they do sell it at that price but since they are a dealer I would imagine they know what their market is there. I will talk to my friend in Ct and ask him about the plow market in the small border states as they have much smaller farms then NY and Kentucky.

It can become a 3 bottom in a few minutes. All you have to do is remove a few bolts and the 4th bottom comes off at the frame.

If you do make a 3 bottom, you may also have to bring up the landslide or tailwheel off #4 bottom to the #3 bottom--Ken Sweet
