Default AC 5050 Impressions

Just looking for some thoughts on a 1984 50HP Fiat diesel engine powered AC tractor for sale here in Northern MI.

The guy's asking $6500 for it - with a loader. Seller acknowledges that there's some constant degree of blowby above 1000 Rpm - but adds that the machine's not losing any oil. From the pictures sent, tin looks good - and the hydraulics are supposed to be a/ok. Hours are unknown - meter is probably legitimately not working - so actual amount is anyone's guess.

My concern revolves around how accessible service for these tractors is? Though Fiat is a very reputable name in the diesel world, is any brand name tractor dealership still dabbling with these machines? My experience with farm tractors pertains to gas engines - I'd be entwined in a learning curve with diesel engines and am concerned that I might not find a repair shop in desperate times of need.

My other concern is the blowback issue. I'm aware of the fundamentals of why the blowback is occurring and that if significant, it shouldn't be allowed to continue for lengthy periods of time. What might I be looking at expense wise to pull the engine and replace the rings/hone the cylinders - and get the beast completely up to snuff?? I'm all for spending a few extra dollars to have a top notch older tractor, if the initial investment is worthwhile.

Any comments/suggestions/guidance is appreciated - particularly with other things to look for - positive and neg. - when examining this tractor. Thanks for the help!

Check parts availability, the neighbor had a few of the Fiat made Olivers and they were not much fun getting parts. Good tractors,,,, but if ya can't get parts well you know. Seems kinda pricey, unless its 4wd or real good condition and it sounds like it may not be?

I neglected to mention that the tractor is MFWD - I would rate the condition as average at best - but not mistreated or abused. But I'm hardly an expert with farm size machines.

An Agco "Heritage Parts" dealer should be able to get parts. I would think any Agco dealer should be able to order them. AGCO Heritage Parts
