Default Long 610 maybe?

I've got what I think is a Long 610 (data plate missing) that had the engine replaced before I got it. Now it's spun a bearing and it turns out that the main bearing journals and rod journals are larger than what the 610 engine calls for and I can not find anyone that has any idea of what this new engine is. All the other specs point to a 610 UTB engine except the crankshaft. The data plate on the engine has this one made in 2002 which is much newer than the tractor. Has anyone any ideas or ever come across this problem?

Is the engine 4 cylinder?

This is just a guess but that engine may be out of a 2610 or a 680.

Gatchelguy, I am told that the 2610 has the same engine as the 610 but I can't find any info about the 680. I had been led to believe the 610 engine was the largest that UTB made. But since this is my first Long, I really dont know much about it. Thanks to both you and Charolais for replying.

The 610 and 2610 are pretty much the same engine. If I remember correct the 680 is the same except it had to meet the newer emmissions standards at that time. I looked at a 680 on my dealers lot and the engine looked the same. Tractor data has the HP the same on those 3 engine numbers. Tractor data list a 2710. I never saw one of those and the old Long web site never had one in their line up.

UTB made these engines for Long. They also have their own line of tractors and they go on up in HP. Long didn't make tractors. They bought from UTB and that line was shipped in to Tarboro for assembly. Go to Tractor Data web site and you can find the Long and UTB tractors. I'm expect UTB made a larger engine that would bolt right up to your 610 and that may be what you have.

I've ruled out the 2710 because the disp is larger. The data plate on mine lists a EPA ENG FAM and a mfg date of 08-02 so I am leaning towards the 680. My crank can be repaired if I have the repair specs and if I can get oversized bearings and a rod. I just can't find the sizes for my machine shop to work on the crank. Manuals, I think are non-existent for the 680 or at least I can't find one. There's plenty of 610s. I appreciate all of the help from everyone and if you have any more ideas or where I can find the specs I would welcome the assistance. Thanks again.

If you have a Montana dealer near you or can contact one they may be able to help you. Montana had two models that were Longs and one looked very much like the 680 by the specs. They may still offer those models. I haven't looked at their line up in a while.

I'll send you a PM with a name and phone number of my dealer. He may be able to point you in the right direction.

Thanks Charolias, I have since found out that it's a 680 engine in a 610 tractor. I sent the engine serial #'s to a manual website and they told me what I have. It's the EPA engine equivalent to the 610 with just a bit more HP than the 610 and of course a larger crankshaft. Don't know why the previous owner didn't go with a 610 engine. Most other parts will interchange with the 610. Thank you for your help.
