1964? Ford 3000 diesel engine has very slow acceleration

She was running just fine last season, but 2 months ago the battery died and I had not been able to start her. Today I replaced the battery and started it up. When you push on the accelerator it takes about ten seconds for it to rev all the way up. What kind of repair will it take to get it running great again?

Fuel filter clogged.
Is black smoke rolling out the exhaust when it is reving up? If so then black smoke = unburnt fuel. Also a fuel leak could be robbing fuel.

i'd have to agree. I'd change the fuel filters and check flow from the tank as my first step. if tank has any gunk in the tap, clean out and add diesel conditioner..

if it smokes black, check air intake..

The strangest thing happened this morning, I cranked the tractor up to show my neighbor what it was doing, and the thing worked just fine. The acceleration was as responsive as it was last season...
