140 Farmall
I have a 140 Farmall that the lift whines all the time and will not lift my disc harrows but a few inches.
Anyone have any ideas?

check yer fluid.. see if it's low, or foamed.. or wet.

would it normally lift these.. or are they just too heavy?

whines are commonly relief.. though could be cavitation / input restriction.. etc.

Fluid is fine,it should pick these up with no problem.I am just hoping it is not the pump, those little jokers are $600.00 or better

The first thing you gotta do is change the hyd. FILTER!---no body ever services them and after some use they get clogged!---If you have bad fluid in there the filter will plug after a few mins. runtime again, so clean the system and refill with new fluid all at the same.---may have to do this a couple times to get it really clean.
next step would be to check the control valves for proper adjustments.---the pump whine sounds like its not getting fluid, so start with filter and fluid change! thanks; sonny 580

These tractors were produced for 21 years--1958 (year I was born) through 1979 (year I was married)--and the serial number, found on a plate on the left side of the bell housing, identifies the year of manufacture (see pasted chart). I can only lift my 16-disc harrow a few inches off the ground. Remember that although these are tough little tractors, they're only about 20 hp and 2wd. That's not very much power in lifting an implement weighing 500-600 pounds. Instead of lifting the disc and carrying it to the tillage site, I just let it touch the ground and let the discs take part of the weight.
