Evening all,
Went out to do a little cutting yesterday, and hit a stump. Looks like I am going to have to replace the bearings in the gear box now. Hopefully that is all I need to replace
Anyone here ever had to do this job on a Bush Hog 3008 gearbox, or similar? Doesn't look like an easy job so far. Any idea what size the nut on the bottom of the stump jumper is? I know it is bigger than a 36mm, and that is the biggest I have. Any information would be appreciated. Will let you all know details as I find out how to do this little job.
Thanks!

Almost 6 years later...but I am getting to you. I know this won't help you, but it may help others in the future. I had the same problem. I took the gear box apart without the need to dismount the stump jumper and blades. I did it all from the top of the mower. I was able to pull out the Crown gear and the Pinion gear (both of them lost teeth). I am in the process of searching for the gears now. I have found that they want
$231.00 for one and $286.00 for the other. Or the whole gear box for $631.00. Seems very high on the gears. Does anyone have any idea on getting cheaper gears or aftermarket? I am going to spend the extra 100 bucks and get the whole gear box if not. Thanks for any info.

Agri-Supply has some aftermarket RFM Drive Boxes. You'll have to measure bolt patterns and possibly make new bolt holes. Might have to buy their stump jumper and blades as well. The prices are way below what you saying BH wants. As always the OEM parts would be a faster fix, but, spendy. bjr

No idea if it will work for you, but Surplus Center sell a Bush Hog gearbox for $199. Says it's for Bush Hog's 3209 model and rated at 190HP. CCW in = CW out. Search for item number 13-1486
