Crown, I noticed in your profile that you have lots of rock and clay (the two worst things for an auger). Clay can be hard to drill into at any time, but when it is dry, it can be really frustrating. Adding water to the hole is the only thing I've found to help with clay. I probably don't need to tell you about rocks, but my solution has always been to change the position of my hole if I run into large rocks. This works okay for stock fence, but maybe not for decorative fences. Your auger can save you a lot of work, but some jobs can still be really frustrating. Keep plenty of shear bolts handy.

The other thing if you haven't used one much is go slowly. Don't just drop the three point down and let it cut. What will happen is as you get lower and lower into the ground it will bite and get itself stuck in the hole. Then you have to dig all the way around it to get it out. That's a real pain in the you know what.
