I got a couple of quotes today on post hole diggers. Local Deere dealer gave me a price of $825 for a bush hog brand. Kubota dealer gave me a price of $795 for a Woods 1130. What is a good price I don't plan on using it very often, but I don't want to have to borrow or rent.

Jeff, those don't sound like bad prices for those brands. They're both good, Rhino also makes a good one, Danuser just might be one of the best, etc. However (and some may disagree), in my opinion, for tractors no larger than yours and mine, and no more than you'll use it, for $500 or so you can buy one from Northern Tool or Tractor Supply Co., or some place like that, that you would probably be just as happy with.

I agree Bird. If a guy isn't going to use one much those cheaper ones are just as good. I've got one that is about 12 years old that was from F&F. New they are about $400. I've probably dug a couple thousand post holes and not one problem and it was used when I bought it.

Ever thought about looking for a used one? A couple years ago I saw a used one at a garage sale for $150.00. If you're only going to use it once or twice in several years, used might be the best way to go.

Re: Price on a decent post-hole digger & 9 inch au

Used ones at auctions go for $250-300 with auger.. These are the lighter duty diggers. Like cowboydoc said, they work just fine for occassion use if you don't abuse it. Even these have shear bolts for drive-line protection. I have used these for years without problems.

I bought a Post Hole Digger and a 9" Auger at Tractor Supply Company - TSC - last July (2001) for $460. I'm perfectly happy with it. It's definitely not "Professional Quality", but for my occasional use I'm not too worried about it. You can but replacement teeth for the auger too....
