My lower swing pivot pin evidently walked up about 1/8" and stuck that way. It's been like that ever since I owned it, and I wouldn't care except that it is high enough that the swing piston shaft crushes the zerk fitting. Greasing the pin requires removing the crushed fitting, replacing with a new one, pumping full of grease, then replacing the crushed fitting. Bogus.

The pin in question is the lower #12 in the two pictures attached.

I loosened the pinch bolts, and shot the area around the pin full of penetrating oil. I applied pressure using a car sissor jack, trying to push the pin down and seat it correctly - pushing against the upper part of the boom casting (under the top pin). I floated the boom down trying to minimize pin pressure, then after that didn't work, bashed it around trying to set up vibrations or anything that might break the pin free.

Ultimately, the sissor jack's drive bolt crushed, and the pin didn't move. A failed effort.

Help?

Take the load off the pin using boom, stabilizers, blocks etc. then apply force, heat and anything necessary. My boom pin was stuck and I had to use a 1" punch with a large hammer to free. Cleaned it up, lubed it and all is well now.

You need to use my two favorite tools. Brute force and ignorance.

You've probably worn a groove in the pin and it's hanging up. Taking it out may trash the bushing. Just to mentally prepare you.

Have you held the boom up with a hoist, taken the cylinder hose off and wiggled the boom side to side while tapping the pin? If that fails to work, you will need a 3 jaw bearing puller. A GOOD one that can take the forces needed to push it out.

Had a bushing pushed out with a porta power and it took 20 ton. The pin should be less....

I got it out!!

I just know that worrying about my stuck pin was keeping y'all up at night, but fear no more - I got it out this past weekend.

I ended up blocking up the boom then pounding out the top pin with a pipe and hammer. I was avoiding this approach, due primarily to blind fear, but decided to go for it after the pressing approach failed the second time.

I was able to run the pipe through the top hole and down onto the bottom pin. After a hundred bashed with a ball pien, I upgraded to a sledge, which popped the pin through after only a couple of stout whacks.

I cleaned everything up and re-greased well, then put it back together. The bottom pin was starting to groove, and sure enough, the bottom bushing is worn out. I'll have to replace the grooved pin and bushing sometime soon - probably do them both. Feel free to comment on the related post.
