Does anyone have a movie of your backhoe attachment in operation. I just got my Bradco 11HD running off my Ford tractor. I have ran full size backhoes before but the Bradco seems as though it cant do some things. It really has a hard time swinging side to side when bucket is on the ground or a small pile of dirt is in the way.

Is your hoe new or used?

The b670 hoe on my kubota b7100 is the same way... but it is 25 years old or so. I have yet to figure out if that is just the way it is or if something is wrong.

I my manual the 'possible causes' are:

low oil
improper hose hookup
worn valve section
pump damaged or worn
broken line
faulty relief valve
swing restrictors improperly installed
jammed swing linkage
bent piston rod

My suction line has a bit of a kink in it that I haven't got around to fixing... I am wondering if that is the problem. Also its likely my cylinders need to be repacked. Not sure if swing needs more oil then the other operations. All the other movements seem to work fine.

Dude, it ain't an excavator!

Slow down and take it easy.

These small hoe's are good at digging and some can even be used as a crane, but they don't have the roubustness to bull thru things. Especially going sideways. You can do some serious damage by whacking into stuff with the swing.

Then again, I've been laying a LOT of weld into my old hoes and might be a bit gun shy.

jb

Or were you bored with hydraulic failures and ready to move up to welding cast?

I agree with JB. Excavators can push material side to side, but small backhoes can't. I don't think there is anything wrong with your unit, it's just how these things are...

I don't have much "sweep" strength for backfilling either. Fortunately for me my fishing buddy is retired out of the operating engineers... Per his instruction: When the application calls for it, start nearest the tractor and drag the spoils back into the trench with an action similar to digging. As the spoils are worked out away from the tractor a small pile is left out near the end of your reach, this small pile is then swept into the trench, reposition and start all over again...
The poster above is correct. You don't want to hit anything solid while sweeping with these little hoes:eek: I don't know of any videos, however you will notice that the controls that need to be operated at the same time are sort of located on the same joystick ie: the dipper and curl. Basically just keep the teeth pointed in the direction of travel with curl while bringing the bucket back with the dipper and maintaining elevation with the boom. The more movements that can be done at the same time the faster things go. Don't take a bigger bite than the hoe can handle (in my case with my soil it is about 3") and try to keep the controls as smooth as possible. Practice, practice, practice... Lets just say my fishing buddy is waayyy faster on a backhoe than me. If you can, stop at a small jobsite nearby and ask an operator to give you a couple pointers. I know my buddy would be more than happy to help and suspect most other operators would be too.

I agree my (new) BHX80 won't push much from side to side.

However it will push dirt forward using the boom and bucket... so if i need to push I do it that way.

These little BHs are limited in what they can do in all honesty but the availability of knocking out small to medium size jobs makes it a great investment.

Backhoe attachments for CUTs compromise swing strength for
a full 180-degree swing. Some earlier hoe attachments use an ingenious
chain and single double-ended hyd cylinder arrangement that got
a full swing but had very poor leverage. Some later hoes used 2 swing
cylinders and center gimbals to get the full swing and a bit more
leverage, but there is still little net swing strength. Commercial
hoes have separate hi-press swing hyd pumps and large cyls.

On my old home-built CADDigger, I had one swing cyl and limited
swing, but I had a better moment arm so I enjoyed greater swing
force, even at 1500psi. I broke the swing cyl attachment once, too.

The only hoe attachment currently available that I am aware of that
has less than 180-deg swing is the Chinese LW-6,7,8. It is specced
at 160-deg so I wonder how its swing cyls are configured. I have
never seen one in person. Maybe IT has more swing force.

Well, you guys saved me some work! Looks like I won't have to worry about trying to improve my bh swing strength ;)

I don't know any easy fix to this. When I am using the boom swing
to backfill, I try to keep the dipper as close to me as possible. I also
use swing motion at the same time as I draw the dipper toward me.

The Bradco 511 has bigger swing cyls, I am sure, but it also has a
longer boom and dipper to rob leverage.

I dont know about your Bradco hoe but we have a 509 on a skidsteer and it has a speed controll valve you can adjust the rate of swing as you need . I havnt ran the unit enough to see if it adds power to the swing cylinders .I bet if you call Bradco parts they may have a video for training purpose it may not be cheap .
