Anyone know of a QA bucket rollback angle increaser? My KMW-made Mahindra ML112 FEL w/QA is devoid of any complex bucket linkage arrangement. As a result of its simple design and conventional geometry, my maximum bucket rollback angle is not nearly as great as it is on other machines. This causes a little frustration when trying to pickup (and/or carry low) a full bucket of anything that won't pack or heap well... such as loose sand, stone or pebble gravel.

Lord knows that I don't want to be dumping loads back on my hood, but I keep wondering if there is an aftermarket adapter or product out there that either: a) changes a QA bucket's attachment angle by a fixed amount, or b) adds a bucket linkage arrangement to a non-linkage design.

Anyone ever come across such a thing?

Back to the top (just one time!) for this admittedly obscure question. But someone must know about something... no? Am I the only tractor owner on here who has ever needed or wanted a little more rollback angle? Am I the only one who ever contemplated the possibility of changing over to an FEL compound linkage arrangement?

I guess if all else fails, I buy a new QA blank plate and have it welded onto the back of my old bucket at a greater angle??? Wish there was a better solution... but maybe that's it!

Would Jeremy know if maybe a different QA bar is available?

I doubt very much that we are looking at a KMW or Mahindra product to suit this particular need... but no, I haven't talked to him about it. I bother him enough on other FEL-related stuff as is! :D

I would think the easiest way would be to fabricate short extensions for the lower loader pins.

Not exactly sure what they would look like... but the big question would be fit at the top edge. How much "slop" is there at that top edge to allow for a different mounting angle?

I'm going to throw a different idea to you. What if you built a front cutting edge extension (say 6-8") similiar to bolt-on toothbar attachments. This would require some trianglar side plates to support that extended cutting edge also. When you roll the bucket back, then the extended cutting edge would be higher, thus more material in the bucket. Disadvantage would be less mechanical advantage for the bucket cylinders. This idea is free, so you can take or leave it. Good Luck.

Hi Mike - Thanks for the input but I'm not really sure that would help. These piles of pebble gravel are like marbles. Just pushing the bucket into a pile of them does nothing but move them away. If I had a backstop, that would be different and your idea would work... but just pushing into them at relatively low speed merely pushes these "marbles" away. I need to get under them somehow and literally scoup them up... or my one-day job (which is already a two-day job) is going to become a three-day job!

Dougster,

You can have one made. You need to have the bottom attachment points be about 3" farther out from the back of the bucket. Leave the top points where they are. This is done to the QA plate that is on the tractor - not the bucket.

You will get more flip up to hold more stuff in the bucket when transporting. BUT, you will loose a LOT of curl power. You can get it all back by upgrading the curl cylinders to ones that are 1/2" diameter larger. That will slow the operation a bit.

good luck.

It's precisely your latter comments that are driving me toward the idea of an adapter rather than a permanent change to one of my buckets or the FEL itself. Think how nice it would be to arrive at a jobsite, make a 4 minute change and instantly have a bucket that could "scoup" rather than just push and lift. I wouldn't want it or need it for every job, but having the option would be very attractive!
