I found a local classified ad for this 6' grader box. The guy wants $75 for it. As you can see from the picture it needs some welding done to make it useable. It could use even more work to make it stronger etc. I can do all of that myself. It's obviously a homemade job. Would you give $75 for it?

I wouldn't pay 75 bucks with that broken weld.

I'd probably pass on this one myself. 75 bucks buys me most of the material to build one , heck it might even turn out better to boot. But thats just my opinion.

I guess if you were willing to replace that angle piece up front with square tube as it should be, and repair the 3 point doodad up top it might work pretty well. I'd probably be able to destroy somthing like that in short order, but luckily I have 2 box blades in reserve so im ahead of the game.

Now, ifn you plan on makin it into a bar-bq or smoker or sumpin like that, nother story entirely... :p

I'm with Roy. It looks quite flimsy and for the time to fix it and the gauge of the metal I'd pass. Buy one that will work well and last.

He could pay me $20 to haul it away for him...

Looks like someones homemade box scraper experiment that got hung up and the design failed. It would need a stronger replacement cross beam(box or round tube) for that bent angle iron one. I would also add a second tab for the lower 3PH pins, outboard of the originals(lower arms go between the tabs and common hitch pins are inserted) like the toplink attach is. This spreads the stress out.

That looks like the broke weld ripped out the tube wall. Probably too thin a tube stock or too much weld penetration/melted tube. The fact that the lower tabs and pins appear straight says it didn't take much force to torque this thing. The workmanship looked pretty good, just the wrong materials for the job.

If the blade and sidewalls are still straight, offer him $10 explaining that the whole crossbar and 3PH attach will have to be replaced with appropriate materials. It probably dosn't have a cutting edge and is just mild steel. If it is not re-enforced or at least 3/8" thick, pass alltogether. If it has a bolt on cutter, that is good. If it dosn't and is only 1/4" as it looks to be, you could weld on a piece of 3 to4" X 1/4" strap down there to re-enforce it on the edge and weld harden it, but again, that is a lot of work to make it right.

Remodeling is always more work than building new. I do not think that it is worth the effort. If you could use the metal to build what you want, then fine but otherwise why?

Nope--have to pass. Failed design homemade out of the wrong stuff for the job. Too light a steel to scrap or to salvage. Be patient & something better will come along, but probably a little more $ than that.

Yep.. I found a good used oxen brand boxblade onthe side of the road for 100$. It needed a little torch and sledge work on one spot.. but has been a jamb up unit for the last 8 years now..
