But since I don't hunt large critters anymore, I have been thinking about a high powered semi auto rifle for long term and long range defensive needs. ;) I would love to shoot a .50 caliber rifle, just once. hugs, Brandi

Time to try an AR-15, Brandi...
I picked up a Rock River Arms .223/5.56 last year. Definitely a nice rifle!
This one (an Entry Tactical) has a 16" barrel, but I'm thinking about getting a 10½" upper and making a SBR out of it.

I'd like to try a .50 Cal too...but can't say I want to buy one.

Me...for CCW, I just love those Glocks...but a .38 revolver is always with me.

Oops!!!

OFF TOPIC ALERT!!!!

Well, since I started this post, I'll try to bring it back to the original topic... and still keep the gun thing going too... I've noticed while mowing with my Frontier RC1072 my Glock 21 keeps rubbing my hip. Now I've decided to purchase another Fobus Universal Home & Vehicle Mount for it. I just need to find a good place to mount it to my 3520. I have one in my truck and I love it. Easy access in case of an emergency and it isn't rubbing me wrong somewhere while I'm sitting. My only concern is the fact that the tractor is a much rougher ride than the truck. Of course, until I fix my gearbox, I won't be spending much time mowing anyway. I'll have to take care of it tomorrow.

By the way, I also have a Kimber Eclipse .45 acp., Seecamp .32, Remington 870 Wingmaster, Beretta 12 & 20 matching NRA Special Edition Shotguns, Muzzleloading 12 g National Wild Turkey Federation special Gobblers Editon shotgun, 1920 (?) Model 94 Winchester 30/30, T/C Encore with .50 cal. Muzzleloading Long barrel and .50 cal. muzzleloading 15" barrel, and .270 15" barrel, and a S&W 629 Classic 44 mag. Hmmm, that's not enough, I still want more. What should I buy next?

Get a holster with a retention strap for your tractor.

As far as what you need...you need an AR-15. Or, AK style rifle...great plinkers and good for home defense (that applies to the AR-15 too).

But, I digress... Have you got that gearbox tightened up yet?

No, it's at my property which is an hour and ten minute drive from where I live and work. I work an average of 85 hours each week, so I'm not able to get there as much as I'd like to. I'm going tonight and spending tomorrow there though and I plan to tighten it then. the

.50 recoil depends on the rifle. Some have as mild of felt recoil as an average 12 ga shotgun. Some are just brutal.

When I learned to shoot I was erroneously taught to close one eye. I am definitely right handed and left eyed, not the best combination for a shooter. Since as a lad of 5 when I couldn't wink my left eye my dad had me try holding the rifle left handed. By the time I was 13 and shooting both .410 and 12 ga single shots I had learned that it was better to leave both eyes open but I just felt more comfortable shooting moving targets left handed due to the years of practice left handed at still targets. In the service I was in SAC and we had to qualify with small arms more often than the plain vanilla AF troops. I would shoot left handed one time and right handed the next, always qualifying as expert.

I now have regular right hand rifles but for live targets usually shoot them left handed. I do have a couple left handed units. One is an adult break barrel air rifle (cheek piece on stock is for a lefty) Got it at a good price at a pawn shop but a proper scope for it cost as much as a good gun.

Recall the movie, "Looking for Private Ryan?" The sniper on that team shot left handed with a right handed bolt action. I empathize with him. Looked funny when he cycled the action with his left hand, reaching over the rifle cross wise to do so but what counts is rounds on target not the choreography that puts them there.

I am pleased to hear about the .45 ACP as a concealed carry. I prefer it to the 9MM. I carry a "baby" Glock in .45ACP, not a tack driver by any means but at realistic ranges minute of angle wouldn't help.

A lot of folks use .45ACP handguns for concealed carry. I did, for a short time (Colt 1911, at SOB). The big Colt isn't too good for this, but a lot of folks do carry them.
I just think that 9mm is as effective a round...in fact, .38 Spl. is effective too.
Since I prefer Glocks over Colts (just my preference), 9mm is the way to go...for me.

Stand by for a 3 Point Heel to Port...as we're off topic again!

Well, I'm glad then you didn't shoot that old Deere mower after all. It looks better than mine! BTW, thanks for sharing that picture of your nice new Bronco cutter.

On the other subject, shooting a .50 cal bmg would be a recoil I'll bet. Why don't you look into a .270? They have excellent ballistics reaching out and are less recoil. Kinda fun to shoot. I'm an 30:06 man myself, that being my best flavor. But I hunt big game with a.378 Wby mag. A little recoil job there too.
Well, the Bronco had a loose blade bolt :( while mowing the other day. I got my 3/4 inch sockets out and then I got my 4 foot cheater pipe and pulled on it until the cows came home. But not before the blade put a crease mark on the underside of the deck. Gotta put some Mahindra red on that. I put the BH back on this afternoon. Now I get to play in the dirt, well.........mud right now.:)
On the other subject, I do not want a rifle smaller than a 308. I want to throw dinner plates, not coffee cup saucers. :D A .223 gets stopped too easily.
Also, my 6520 has a neat little glove box just aft of the steering wheel. I was thinking about putting one of those little pistols that shoot a 410 shell in one barrel and a 45 long colt in the other barrel. :)
hugs, Brandi
