If you are mowing fairly rocky fields will the lower roller take some abuse or
will if get dinged and or bent pretty quickly. Or does it float/jump over most
obstacles which helps protect the hammers from a direct hit into larger rocks.

I'll answer your question in a couple of weeks.:) Just ordered a TM1900 and I have quite a few outcroppings of rocks where I mow.

The roller should not bend or have nicks from the stones but will get marked. The roller which is what you set the depth with will only patially protect the flails.

Islandtractor: I can't wait to hear your review on Caroni Flail. TM1900 Did you go with hammers shaped in Y formation..? Did you get with the shift kit..? My curiousity obviously is how you feel the lower roller does as it moves over tougher areas. I have all new rough fields and keep feeling I may
need to start with Bush Hog first few years before I can justify the Flail. Keep
me posted. Thanks Bill

I ordered the hammer model (TM1900) but did not order the shift kit. I am interested in checking out the utility of the shift which I can do manually. If I find it useful and need to switch back and forth then I'll get the hydraulic kit. I have rear remotes so the tractor is all set.

I have little concern myself about how tough this mower will be compared with a bush hog. I don't intend to cut fields with old car parts in it but will run into rocks every year in different places due to the New England freeze thaw business and our glacial deposits. I think that is exactly what the hammer version of the flail is designed to deal with.

My only question at the moment with regard to whether I will also need a bush hog relates to the unique ability of the bush hog to project 6-8 feet out the back of the tractor so you can back into heavy brush rather than needing to drive over it first. I did a lot of that in the past couple of years. I'm about to purchase a bigger tractor and I am thinking that I will substitute using my grapple with the much stronger loader to rip up things that I used to back into. We'll see. At worst I'll decide to add a 5 or 7 ft bush hog later for initial brush clearing purposes then maintain the land with the flail.

Will you keep your current Millonzi grapple or are you going bigger with larger
new tractor ? Can wait for Caroni reviews...When are you getting the Flail.

Yes I will keep the 48" Millonzi. I have long advocated that it is the biggest size you really need with a CUT so I am putting my grapple where my mouth is and switching it from the KL120 loader to the KL401 loader.

My flail is being shipped now but I won't get the tractor for a couple more weeks.

I have the ld 66 which maybe too much, but I haven't done enough with it yet to see if I should have stayed with 48. It's on NH TC55 DA so it's not a
weight issue just more about what was the advantage.(two forks obviously) I did have and may still have some trouble with value releasing from close down function on front grapple forks when I tried to pinch down on a load of brush. I haven't experimented again with that problem. What is strange though is I've lifted and curled the bucket with heavy bank run gravel and did not have male/female release. The release point was just below right front side where all the hydraulic values are mounted on all FEL movements. Have
you every seen pressure or stress stories from a grapple, vs bucket that I
need to know about. That pushes the values harder on grapples vs bucket
movements.

Nope....I haven't heard of any such discussion.

Thanks. Did you upgrade tractor because you need more HP for attachments.
