One of the biggest differences between the two hitches is one uses removable pins and the other uses spring loaded latches. With that said IMO and in my experience the spring loaded latches are well worth the extra price if for no other reason than I cant loose them. I can loose enough pins unless they are chained on to off set the higher cost in no time at all.

I know that is because of my failing not the manufacturers but it is still a fact of my life.

Jack,

I have actually contemplated attaching the pin to the hitch with a small chain or the like.

If you provide the same "stand behind your product" and customer service that Pat does, I applaud you. Pat and his company have been great to me, they support TBN, and I really like his product. For the above reasons, I doubt I would change to anything else- for any reason. I had one of the springs break on mine and they sent me a new one -2 years after my purchase at no charge. Hard to beat that kind of service in this day and age. I don't use mine all that much during mowing season but use it a lot during the fall and winter. It's a tough -well built -easy to use system.

I wonder if Pat would send me a replacement cotter pin. One of mine broke 2 years ago..........Nah never mind, I'd never get around to removing the whole thing to replace it. I have bins of them already, but it still works so I've never replaced it.

Bill,
Obviously I can't speak for Pat but perhaps it is the Kentucky blood that Pat and I share. I just know that quality and customer satisfaction are my two top priorities! Here is a quote from a customer.

Jerome made me a set of hitches one year ago. Because I am fairly new at farming, it took me a while to really use them hard plowing in heavy, wet clay. I must say that the hitches have held up great!! I recently lost a pin on the hitch and it was definitely my fault. When I wrote to Jerome to ask him if I could buy a new retaining pin for the hitch. Rather than just a price for me to buy the pin, he responded with a question on why I needed the pin. After several emails back and forth he recommended that I send the hitch back to him so he could modify them. Not because they weren稚 already performing great, he just wanted to make sure I never had any problems - he really beefed them up. What is absolutely unbelievable to me is that I offered to pay Jerome and he never responded, he just kept asking me questions until he was comfortable that he understood the issues I had so he could modify the hitches as he saw best. In the end, he fixed them at his expense and never even mentioned me paying him for his time. I did not expect that level of service, but he was an absolute pleasure to business with. I would highly recommend his quick hitches, and more importantly I would recommend Jerome as a businessman. Thank you Jerome, you are a rare breed in today痴 business world best of luck with your business.

Because I am to broke to pay attention, I decided to build my own. I am building a hook similar to the EZ hook. I wish I could afford either one, Pat's or the EZ.
However, I just don't have the extra cash to do so at this time. I assure you this is a one time operation here. LOL While I do have a lathe, and a so so drill press, I don't have a milling machine or other things that would be needed to manufacture things.
I am putting a place on the back to use a square bolt or bracket to keep the thing from having to much play. It is a pretty tough project for the tools I have.
These little projects give one a sense of satisfaction and I take the time I need to do them. If it takes a week month what ever so be it.
The metal was bought from a friend who has a metal shop and he let me have the materials for a pretty cheap price. I won't have over 15 dollars in the whole thing. I also made my own tiltometer and have been using it for about a year now. I may post some photos later.
Commenting on either design, you still have to get off and hook up the PTO shaft and top link. That said, it sure seems as though it would be much more easy to hook than trying to thread 6 to 8 hundred pound mower, onto the lift arm holes.

Anthony, you have the right attitude to make it and I wish you well. Thank you for sharing and good luck to you.

I am attaching a picture of one of two hooks I have made here. I have not welded them to a bracket as of yet. I am thinking about putting a square bolt on the back or make a bracket to clamp it to the arm to keep it from rocking. And hope it will give added support.

How much space do you have? If you have less than 1/8" of space I would not worry about the rocking issue. If you would like to call me I can be reached at 502-376-1435. I can give you some ideas.
