I have a Cub Cadet 7360ss, Mitshubishi 36 hp diesel, 4x4 , weighing 4500-5000 lbs with the weighted tires and FEL installed.

Will this run a John Deere model 350 9' sickle bar mower? I just need to know if the HP is in the range needed. I posted a question over on Yesterday's Tractor forum a while back and another one today and can't seem to get an answer. Anyone familiar with sickle mowers and can give me an answer? I believe a 7' will work just fine. Not sure about the extra 2'

HP wise a sickle bar doesn't take much. A 9' bar probably wouldn't take more than 10 or 12 hp to run. They just don't take much. You're more than covered as far as horsepower. You aren't talking a great deal of weight in the cutter bar either. Your tractor would handle that part. I'm not too familiar with the hitch arraingment though. If you have adaquate room to mount the mower, you should be good to go.

Thanks again Farmwjunk! That's the answer I was hoping. Maybe someone on the site has used or is currently using the JD 350 and can also give me some feedback on fitting or not. The owner states it is a CAT 1 set up with a 540 rpm PTO, 6 spline. I thought I may have read somewhere about someone needing to lengthen their lift arms to have this particular unit clear the rear wheels, or the ability to fit it inside the lift arms? Not sure, but I've gotten a lot of help from the members here so I thought I'd post the question.

Thanks.

If possible, post a picture of your hitch. One picture is worth 1000 words.

Watch the side to side clearance on the tires. Unless you have the mower snugged up very tight, it will swing from side to side an inch or so. That may cause metal to hit the tires inside side walls.

I have just under 25PTO HP and run a 7' sickle easily at under 2000rpm. You are more than covered with HP. Used engine/tranny oil makes a great and cheap lube for the bar.

I wanted to respond over on the YT site but didn't want to get into a fight with the guy who insists that it won't work because compact tractors aren't "farm tractors". A tractor is a tractor is a tractor.

I'm questioning wheather there's enough room between the draft arms, not at the back end, but at the transmission end. They taper in a little more than with some bigger tractors. If anyone has a #350 Deere mower, let's see a picture of that if possible.

A 9' bar will have a little bit of side load, but not nearly so bad a "George" insists. I've cut a BUNCH of hay back in the day with a 9' New Holland sickle bar on a TO-20 Ferguson belonging to my dad. While that tractor had a bit more width, it wasn't any heavier and even had LESS hp than yours.

Thanks farm, that's exactly what I'm worried about, it fitting between the arms and not rubbing the tires. I think we've established that the tractor is heavy enough and has enough HP.

Maybe we can get a picture posted of the JD350 AND it mounted on a tractor. That would help MUCH!

I know what you mean about the other forum. This may not be a farm tractor per se, but it is doing everything I need to to right now and really surprises me in its capabilities.

FWJ,

I found some pictures of the JD 350, NH451 and just for good measure an IH 1300.

The JD 350 looks like some of the frame is forward of the 3 point pins. Do you think this would get in the way of the shorter link arms?

Also, the NH 451 has that piece that leans toward the tractor on the left side of the picture. What's that for?

The IH 1300 looks like it's more compact and would easily fit. What's your opinion on that model?

Have used NH451 on tractors as small as 8Ns (Ford), Ford also made a good belt drive 3pt sickle bar mower I can't remember the number. (Blue)
