I'm looking at picking up a used Sovema tiller. Size is 48" and it comes with a slip clutch and PTO shaft. Keep in mind I'm in Canada.

For a new one, they're asking 1900. They wanted 1500 for this one, I said I'd consider it for $1200 if they cut down the PTO shaft for the correct length (just in case it needs it, I want them to be the ones who cut it)

Is $1200 a good deal if the tiller isn't beat?

Thanks in advance.

Anyone? They called back and said they'd take $1200. Is it worth a 45 minute drive for me to go and check it out?

I went and looked, and the thing had some hard miles on it. I would guess it was 15 years old. Worth maybe 6-700 but not a cent more. I walked away.

Any suggestions? Should I go with a King Kutter?

Right now I'm thinking "Caroni", but I don't know what the price difference is between KK and Caroni. There is also the trade off between paying shipping or sales tax.

BLK88GT,

I went with a Sovema tiller and purchased it new. I know lots of folks on here have the KK brand, plus a lot of others we don't have direct retail access to being in Canada. Another option would be the Buhler/Farm King tiller. Again, quite reasonable in price, and quite popular in Canada.

Where you are located?

I just realized I didn't fill out my profile. I'm near Winnipeg, Manitoba. Grand Forks (and TSC!) is only about 2 hours from here. I was thinking of making a trip down and picking up a tiller, since all I can find locally is junk.

A new Farm King/Buhler is going to be about 2k after tax. I could drive down and get the KK For under 1400.

Is the difference in the two worth 600 bux?

I called TSC and they have the 4ft KK on sale for $999

Only problem is none of them have any in stock in North Dakota.

Looks like I'm stuck paying local prices if I want one this year :(
